QUESTION
What diagnostic logs and traces are useful to troubleshoot issues pertaining to Bursting in Strategy Distribution Services 9.x and newer?

ANSWER
Bursting is a new feature introduced in Strategy Distribution Services 9.3.0. Instructions for using the Bursting feature are available in the following Strategy Knowledge Base technical note:
KB3857: How to use the Bursting feature in Strategy Distribution Services 9.3.x and above

Currently, Bursting in Strategy 9.4.x and newer can only be done for file subscriptions. The following traces/logs should be investigated for bursting errors by searching within the timeframe in which the subscription was executed:

  • DSSErrors.log
  • Scheduler trace
  • MSTRFileTransmitter trace

The scheduler trace and MSTRFileTransmitter trace can be enabled as per the instructions in the following Strategy Knowledge Base technical notes:

KB11832: How to enable Scheduler tracing in MicroStrategy 9.x - 10.x.
KB37376: What information does MSTRFileTransmitter log in MicroStrategy Diagnostic and Performance Logging tool 9.0.2?

Note: The DSSErrors.log files are not always sufficient when troubleshooting complex Bursting issues. The additional logging provides more information on the actual execution of the subscription and the Bursting component.
