How to create a one time schedule that runs only once and unsubscribes itself using Microstrategy Intelligence Server 9.x and later

This document describes a method that allows users to schedule a report that will execute only once, unsubscribe itself and clear its subscription list after it is executed in Strategy Intelligence Server 9.x and later.

Consider the following example:

A user would like to create a schedule that will execute daily at 7:00 P.M. The same schedule should be made to break the link between the report and itself after the execution. Further, the same report would NOT execute again the following evening at 7:00 P.M. Rather, the schedule will execute at its daily scheduled time, cache the report and then automatically clear out the list of reports attached to it. In this way, users can `subscribe` a report to this schedule but not have to `unsubscribe` because it will automatically unsubscribe the report itself.

With Strategy Intelligence Server 9.x and later, it is possible to execute a schedule which will break the link between the report and schedule after the execution. This can be achieved by making use of the scripts available in Strategy Command Manager 9.x and later.

  • In Strategy Developer, create a schedule and assign a report to it.
  • Click on the Insert Outline icon in the Strategy Command Manager toolbar. In the "Choose Outline" window, expand the folder "Schedule_Relation_Outline" and select "Delete_Schedule_Relation_Outline", as shown in the screen shot below.

  • Choose one of the following options:

    • "Delete all schedule relations for report"
    • "Delete all schedule relations for user"

  • To test, run the script. Create a batch file by saving the script and creating a .bat file.
  • Execute a Strategy Command Manager script through a command line interface. For details on this process, refer to the following Strategy Knowledge Base document:

    • KB6392: How to execute a command manager script through a command line interface with MicroStrategy Administrator - Command Manager 9.x

Windows Scheduled Task feature can then be used to schedule execution of scripts.
