KB8736: How to display the message prompting a user to restart the Microstrategy Intelligence Server when a VLDB setting has been modified in MicroStrategy Developer 10.x

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This Technical Note describes how to display the message prompting a user to restart the Microstrategy Intelligence Server when a VLDB setting has been modified in MicroStrategy Developer 10.x. The first time a MicroStrategy Desktop user modifies a Very Large DataBase (VLDB) property setting, they will receive a warning message informing them that Microstrategy Intelligence Server must be restarted in order for the new settings to take effect. If the user checks the box for "Don't show this message next time", they will not receive this window again. However, Administrator can re-enable this message by changing the Registry key setting as describe in this Technical note.

The first time a Strategy Desktop user modifies a Very Large DataBase (VLDB) property setting, they will receive a warning message informing them that Strategy Intelligence Server must be restarted in order for the new settings to take effect, as shown in the screen shot below:

In order for the new VLDB settings to take effect, please re-start Intelligence Server.
If the user checks the box for "Don't show this message next time", they will not receive this window again.

In order for the user to receive this warning message the next time they modify the VLDB settings, the administrator must perform the following steps:

  1. Go to the Windows Registry Key.
  2. Look for the key "VLDB Configuration Warning for DB Instance" in the following path:
  3. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MicroStrategy\DSS Agent\Server Administration

Registry Modification:
WARNING:
Modifying registry values incorrectly may cause serious, system-wide problems that may require the re-installation of Microsoft Windows NT. Any edit of the registry is done at the user's own risk. Since these are user-initiated changes, they are not covered by any Strategy warranty. If using Microsoft Windows NT, the user should backup the registry and/or update an Emergency Repair Disk (ERD) prior to alterations.

  • Delete the "VLDB Configuration Warning for DB Instance" key.
