KB8803: Some embedded images are not displayed when a user runs a Document Object in Microstrategy Web 9.x

• Strategy

Users may notice that a broken link (as represented by a red X) will appear for some images when executing a document object in MicroStrategy Web 9.x. This technical note provides a possible explanation. This technical note will use the Microstrategy Tutorial project as an example to show why these images are not displayed correctly.

SYMPTOM:
When the user opens the Electronics Dashboard Document Object in Strategy Web 9.x, some of the images embedded in the document object are not displayed. A broken image link is returned in the web browser. In this case, the correct .gif image files were located in the correct folder.
CAUSE:
Images that are part of the Report Objects can be seen in the document objects. However, if the document object were edited in Strategy Desktop 9.x and if the images were placed manually into the document object, then the images will not appear correctly for the user.
ACTION:
Users can perform the following steps to display the images correctly:

  1. Edit the document in Strategy Desktop 9.x. Right click on each image which does not appear correctly. Copy the name.
  2. Go to the location given in Project Configuration > Advanced > Document directory and find the ElectronicsDashboard.htm file. View the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) of the document in notepad.
  3. Search for one of these image names. Notice that the path given is `images\`.
    For example:
    <TD NOWRAP="1" CLASS="css19C5673CCA407C07B0BF71DA8DEC219C9F"><IMG src="images\GrayMeter_-02.gif" /></TD>
  4. Replace this with the full path for this image.
  5. Save the change and re-execute the document.

The modified image will now display properly.
