How to create a report in MicroStrategy Enterprise Manager that will display each execution step of a job request along with the execution length of each step.

Perform the following steps to create a report in Strategy Enterprise Manager that will allow the ability to view each step of a job and it's corresponding metrics:
 

  1. Open a new report editor.
  2. Go to the attribute folder for 'Report Job'.
  3. Add the 'Report Job' attribute.
  4. Go to the attribute folder for 'Indicators & Flags' and add the 'Report Job Step Type' attribute instead.
  5. Add the metrics 'RP Queue Duration', 'RP Exec Duration' and 'RP Elapsed Duration'.
     
    Note: Other metrics may be added as needed for specific types of analysis. The metrics chosen above will provide a calculation of the queue duration for each step, the execution duration for each step and the elapsed duration (queue duration + execution duration).
     
  6. Add a time filter as needed. The 'Choose a Time Filter' prompt is used in similar report analysis reports and would be useful in this report.
     
  7. Follow these steps to enable subtotaling which will enhance the analysis of these jobs:
    1. Go to the Data menu and choose 'Subtotals'.
    2. Click on the 'Advanced' tab.
    3. Choose the 'Group by' radio button.
    4. Select 'Report Job'.
    5. Check the 'Grand Total' box.
    6. Click 'OK'.

The attribute 'Report Job Step' or 'Report Job Step Type' is based on the statistics logged into the IS_REP_STEP_STATS table and the column StepType. This table is mapped in the data load process to the view IS_REP_STEP_FACT and column IS_REP_STEP_TYP_ID. The lookup table that stores each reference to a job step is IS_REP_STEP_TYPE.
