KB8989: "A condition in the where clause results in a two-sided outer join" error message appears with Informix Extended Parallel Server (XPS).

• Strategy

Users receive the following error message for reports in Informix XPS: A condition in the where clause results in a two-sided outer join.

SYMPTOM:
Users receive the following error message for reports in Informix XPS:

A condition in the where clause results in a two-sided outer join.

CAUSE:
This issue occurs because the full set of outer join ANSI syntax is not present in XPS. According to Informix Tech Support, "The LEFT OUTER JOIN, RIGHT OUTER JOIN, FULL OUTER JOIN syntax is ANSI-compliant syntax and was added in IDS." However, for XPS, it is by default a left outer join. Users can switch the table order to achieve the same variation of outer joins (right and full outer join). Strategy Engine provides the capability to switch the order of the table using the VLDB setting "From Clause Order".
ACTION:
Perform one of the following actions to resolve this issue:

  • Switch the report level Very Large Database (VLDB) property for "From Clause Order" from the default value to "Move last table in normal FROM clause order to the first".
  • Perform the VLDB modification mentioned in the previous action (report level only) to allow for proper SQL execution.
