SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Developer and Object Manager, when a user tries to duplicate a project the following error message appears:
"The version of the destination project source is older than the source project source. Do you want to update the version of the destination project source?"
CAUSE:
This occurs because the metadata version of the source project is newer than the metadata in the destination project.
The Metadata repository has two distinct parts:
Projects in a newer version, for example Strategy 2021, have dependencies on objects in the configuration that were not present or had different definitions in previous versions, such as Strategy 2020. Hence, duplicating a Strategy 2021 project into an older repository may cause inconsistencies in the resultant copy of the source project. The Project Duplicate Wizard checks that the source project is not newer than the destination project. If the source project is newer, the wizard will prompt users to update the destination project.
ACTION:
Both project duplication and Object Manager migration of objects should only be done between metadatas of the same version to avoid this error and other issues.
