KB9097: Attribute IDs longer than 11 digits are converted to scientific notation when exporting to Excel in MicroStrategy Web 9.x.

SYMPTOM:
 
Users may notice that after exporting a report to Excel in Strategy Web 9.x, some or all of the attribute IDs are displayed in scientific notation. Additionally, the user may notice that this issue will only occur for attribute IDs greater than 11 digits long, as shown in the screenshot below:
 

 
CAUSE:
 
This issue occurs because Strategy Web 9.x will choose to format all of the cells for attribute IDs in Excel as the "General" cell format. Any number with more than 11 digits will be displayed in scientific notation in Excel.
 
ACTION:
 
There are two ways in which a user can resolve this issue:
 

• Choose to export all headers as text. To achieve this:
  
1. In Strategy Web, go to Preferences > Project Defaults > Export.
2. Check "Export headers as text (Excel only)"
•  
  When the user now exports the report, the values will no longer be in scientific notation.
   
  
• If the user does not prefer to export the attribute IDs as text, then the user can format the cells in Excel and change the cells to a "Number" format. To achieve this:
  
1. Highlight the cell in which the number value is appearing with scientific notation.
2. Right-click on these cells and select Format Cells.
3. Change the cell type from "General" to "Number".
