KB9175: In MicroStrategy Developer 10.x, when using a running sum metric, users do not have the ability to sort by a custom group element.

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

MicroStrategy OLAP Services offers the ability to calculate dynamic running sums out of the metric value in a template. However, the "Sort by object" option under the running sum parameters is not available when the report is created with a custom group.

SYMPTOM:
Strategy OLAP Services offers the ability to calculate dynamic running sums out of the metric value in a template. However, the "Sort by object" option under the running sum parameters is not available when the report is created with a custom group.

Perform the following steps to reproduce this issue:

  • Create a custom group, as shown below:

  • Create a report with the custom group, a metric and a derived metric for the running sum, as shown below:

  • Edit the derived metric. Highlight and right-click on the function name "RunningSum". Select the 'Running Sum parameters' option:

Notice that there is no option to sort by the order of the custom group elements, as shown below:

CAUSE:
An enhancement request has been logged with Strategy so the user can select an element out of the custom group for sorting.

ACTION:
Strategy will continue to investigate and post updates as soon as they are available.
