KB9275: How are cache hits counted in a MicroStrategy Intelligence Server 9.x clustered environments?

Community Admin

• Strategy

When cache is used in a clustered environment, the cache can be hit from different nodes in the cluster. In the current cache monitoring, only cache hits from a local server (the server that generates the cache) is included.
All report cache hits are tracked on a server-by-server basis and are not synchronized among all the nodes in the cluster. Cache hits to caches are not broadcast on remote servers by design in order to reduce the amount of network traffic.

To reproduce this issue, perform the following steps:

  1. Join Strategy Intelligence Servers A and B in a cluster.
  2. Execute report X from Strategy Intelligence Server A.
  3. Execute report X from Strategy Intelligence Server B.
  4. The hit count on server A in the cache monitor does not change.
  5. Execute report X from Strategy Intelligence Server A again.

Observe that the hit count on Strategy Intelligence Server A in the cache monitor increased by one.
