KB9279: How to restrict a guest user’s ability to access reports in MicroStrategy Web

Community Admin

• Strategy

In some business environments, administrators may be required to restrict the ability of a guest user to access specific reports in a project in Strategy Web.

The following procedure describes how to deny the guest user account access to specific reports.

  1. Login as an administrative user in Strategy Desktop.
  2. Ensure that there are no users in the Public/Guest Group.
  3. Go to Public Objects and click on the Reports folder.
  4. Right-click on each report folder or report that the Guest user should not have access to and select 'Properties'.
  5. In the Properties window, under the Security tab for Public/Guest user, select 'Denied All permission for Objects' and check the box for 'Apply changes in Permissions to all children objects'.

Now, users logging into Strategy Web as a "Guest" will be able to access only the folders permitted in the project and will not be able to navigate to other report folders.
