Community Admin

• Strategy

The following procedure describes how to Install and Configure BEA WebLogic 7.0 on a machine with a Windows Operating System to enable the deployment of Web Universal. The procedure assumes the use of the Web Logic Installation and Configuration Wizard.

Install Web Logic

  1. Run the BEA installer. If necessary, create a new BEA home. The default for the BEA Home Directory is c:\bea.
  2. Select "Typical installation" and choose the Product directory (typically a subdirectory of the BEA Home directory).
  3. In the Installation Complete panel, select "Run Quick Start" to bring up the BEA Configuration Wizard.

Configure BEA WebLogic

  • Run the Domain Configuration Wizard from Start > Programs > BEA WebLogic Platform.
  • Create a new Domain of type "WLS Domain" and name it. For this example, "onlinestore" is used as the domain name.
  • For Server Type, choose "Admin server with managed servers".
  • Specify the directory location for the domain.Typically, it is <BEA Home Directory>\user_projects.
  • The Managed Server(s) must be added. Click on 'Add' and enter the information requested, as shown in the example below:

  • Once the Managed Server(s) have been added, configure the Admin Server, as shown below:

  • Create the administrative user.
  • Make sure NOT to install the Server as an NT Server.
  • Choose NOT to install the server on the Windows Start Menu.
  • Click 'Create' in the Configuration Summary pane.

Use the batch scripts startWebLogic.cmd and startManagedWebLogic.cmd to start the administration and managed servers
Here are examples of starting the admin and the MyServer server of the domain created above. The default location of the .cmd files is C:\bea\weblogic700\server\bin.

  1. C:\bea\weblogic700\server\bin>startWLS.cmd
  2. C:\bea\weblogic700\server\bin>startManagedWebLogic.cmd MyServer localhost:7021

Deploy Strategy Web Universal

  1. Modify WLS start script to start WLS in production mode.
    1. Edit the script BEA_HOME\onlinestore\startWebLogic.cmd.
    2. Change the line set STARTMODE= to set STARTMODE=TRUE.
    3. Save the changes.
  2. Stop the administration server from the console and start it by using the startWebLogic.cmd script.
  3. Stop the managed server using the console and start it by using the startManagedWebLogic.cmd script.
  4. Deploy Strategy Web Universal from the WebMstr7.war Web archive to the MyServer server in the onlinestore domain:
    1. Get the war file (default location is \Program Files\MicroStrategy\WebUniversal\ServerApps).
    2. Create a folder named "WebMstr7" under BEA_HOME\user_projects\onlinestore\applications where the content of the War file will be placed.
    3. Unzip the contents of the war file using WinZip and place it into the folder created above.
    4. Deploy to domain "onlinestore", server "MyServer" by going to BEA WebLogic Console at http://localhost:7021/console.
  5. Verify the deployment by pointing the browser to http://localhost:7024/WebMstr7/servlet/mstrWeb.

Install HTTP Apache 2.0 Server and integrate with Web Logic

  1. Download Apache 2.0.47 msi installation from http://www.apache.org.
  2. Run the installation file. Enter the domain and full server name (including full domain). Make sure it is installed as a service.
  3. Run http://localhost and see the Apache server prompt.
  4. Run Apache -l under D:\Apache\Apache2\bin folder and make sure mod_so.c is listed.
  5. Copy mod_wl_20.so from D:\bea\weblogic700\server\bin to D:\Apache\Apache2\Modules.
  6. Open httpd.conf and add following lines into the file:
    LoadModule weblogic_module modules/mod_wl_20.so
  7. and
    <IfModule mod_weblogic.c>
    WebLogicHost localhost
    WebLogicPort 7001
    </IfModule>
  8. Use Apache - t under D:\Apache\Apache2\bin folder and make sure the syntax is right.
