KB9311: How to display only a portion of a filter detail or a prompt answer in a MicroStrategy Report Services Document

Stefan Zepeda

This article describes how to hide part of the auto text code when displaying a filter details or a prompt answers in a Report Services Document

Auto text codes allow users to quickly and easily display prompt answers and/or report filter details in a Strategy Report Services Document.
However, in the case of filter details and hierarchical prompts, these auto text codes will also display the qualified attribute/metric and the logical operators (=, <>, >, <, AND, OR, NOT) which define the filter/prompt.

Users may “hide” portions of the auto text code results by manipulating the text field containing such auto text code. The following filter detail will be used to illustrate this workaround:

Region = Northeast
The goal of this workaround is to only display the value of the filter criteria (Northeast) instead of the entire string illustrated above:

  1. Insert the filter detail auto text in the desired location of the Report Services document.
  2. Highlight the text field containing the auto text and change its “Height mode” property from “Fit to contents” to “Fixed” in the Property List.
  3. Change its “Word wrap” property to “False” in the Property List.
  4. Choose the “Align right” option in the toolbar to display the text from right to left.
  5. Change the width of the text field to fit only the portion of the string that should be displayed at run time.
