Article outlines a reason why reports disappear from the shared history list in a cluster environment, a key symptom of this is that the error “DSS ServerKernel Fatal Error : Cannot find or create inbox directory” appears in the MicroStrategy DSSErrors.log file.

SYMPTOM:
When a report is sent to history list, either by the user or via a subscription, the report appears in the history list folder of one node but is not displayed in the history list folder of the other node. The report may be briefly viewable in 3-tier and 4-tier in the History List folder of both nodes.
Users may notice the following error in the DSSErrors.log file:
DSS ServerKernel Fatal Error : Cannot find or create inbox directory
CAUSE:
The reason for this behavior is a combination of hardware connectivity and system configuration.

ACTION:
To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:

  1. Ensure the network card of the cluster nodes are configured to "enable netbios over TCP/IP" - otherwise sharing will not be possible using netbios names (for 'ClusterCaches' and 'ClusterInbox'). For this action, users are strongly encouraged to contact their system administrator.

  • Ensure that the user's Regional Options settings are the same as the clustered system's Regional Options settings.
