KB9556: What are some of the recommended ODBC DSN settings for Teradata?

Community Admin

• Strategy

This Knowledge Base document provides some recommendations for ODBC DSN settings when using Teradata.

Metadata configuration for Teradata
For usage of Teradata as a metadata for Strategy 9.x, the following ODBC DSN settings are recommended:

  • Session Mode = Teradata
  • DateTime Format = AAA
  • "Disable Parsing" checked

This is illustrated in the following screen shot:

For more details on the ODBC settings mentioned above, refer to the following Strategy Knowledge Base document:

  • KB4225 - How to configure the driver to create a new metadata repository in Teradata using the Strategy 9.x Product Suite

The remaining ODBC DSN settings may be left at their default values.

Warehouse configuration for Teradata

For usage of Teradata as a warehouse for Strategy 9.x, the Session Mode may need to be set to ANSI. The reason has to do with the way Teradata-mode connections handle insertion into intermediate tables, and may manifest as underreported values in certain Count() metrics.
Refer to the following Strategy Knowledge Base document for more details on this:

  • KB16635  - Count metrics may return incorrect results when temporary tables are used in a Teradata warehouse instead of derived tables

The remaining ODBC DSN settings may be left at their default values.
