This article describes error "A MicroStrategy 9 metadata repository has not been found...The object we try to access does not exist...Invalid object name DSSMDSYSPROP" when trying to connect to a metadata from MicroStrategy Desktop 9.4.1 - Developer 10.x

SYMPTOM:
After creating a new project source in Strategy  Desktop 9.4.1 - Developer 10.x, a user tries to connect and encounters an error similar to the following:

A Strategy 9 metadata repository has not been found. Error message: The object we try to access does not exist. Call SQLExecDirect got SQL_ERROR [S0002:208: on HSTMT] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'DSSMDSYSPROP'.

Upon examining the metadata tables in the database, the user will notice that, in spite of the error message, the table DSSMDSYSPROP does in fact exist in the metadata.

CAUSE:
This issue could be caused by metadata tables that are owned by a user who is not referenced in the authentication process. This may be seen by listing the database tables. Consider the following example from SQL Server Enterprise Manager:

In this case, the last ten metadata tables of the list are owned by user "meta" who is not referenced at authentication.

ACTION:
Perform the following steps to resolve this issue:

  • Right-click on the project source in Strategy Desktop.
  • Select "Modify Project Source" and go to the "Metadata Table Prefix" tab.
  • In the "Table Prefix" field, enter the user name in question followed by a period (.). In this example, the name would be "meta.", as shown below:

  • Select 'OK', which will close the connection to the project source.

After re-connecting to the project source, the error will not occur.
