KB9747: How to create a report in MicroStrategy Enterprise Manager 9.x to list report jobs that failed because the row limit was exceeded

The report filter must contain a qualification on the attribute Job Error, ID = -2147205488.

Strategy Enterprise Manager 9.x records an error code of -2147205488 into the IS_REP_FACT table during report execution if the project-level governors "Number of report result rows" or "Number of intermediate result rows" are exceeded during execution. This error code corresponds to the error message "The report results cannot be displayed because it exceeds the maximum row limit in governing."

To create a Strategy Enterprise Manager report displaying jobs that failed for this reason, the report filter must contain a qualification on the attribute Job Error, ID = -2147205488.

It is also necessary to include any metric based on a fact in the IS_REP_FACT to ensure the correct join path between Job Error and Report Job. Job Error is related to Report Job only by facts on this table. In the example below, the 'RP Request Date' metric is used to retrieve the date of execution rather than the 'Day' attribute. Using the 'Day' attribute without any metrics will result in an undesired Cartesian join and incorrect results from the report.

Consider the following example:

  1. Create an empty report in Strategy Enterprise Manager. Add the following attributes (or any other attributes desired) to the rows:
    • User
    • Project
    • Report
    • Report Job
  2. Add the metric 'RP request date' to the report in order to locate the latest date on which the error occurred.
  3. Add an attribute qualification on Job Error, selecting the ID form to be exactly "-2147205488".
  4. Add the "Choose a Time Filter" prompt to restrict the result set to specific periods of time.

This report will appear similar to the following:

When executed, the results will appear as follows:

ka04W000000OgYUQA0_0EM440000002Bqs.jpeg

Note: It is not possible to report on the number of rows in jobs that exceeded the row limit. When an error occurs during execution, 0 is recorded for the number of result rows.
