The Narrowcast Server SMTP ITM (Information Transmission Module) allows the delivery of emails from Narrowcast Server. Use the following steps to enable and configure a log file that will allow further troubleshooting of the SMTP mechanism to take place.
Steps:
To enable logging for the Strategy Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) protocol, perform the following steps:
- Open the registry by going to Start > Run and enter 'regedit'.
- Navigate to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Strategy\Strategy Broadcast Server\7.0\SMTPService
NOTE: For 64-bit machines the location will be HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Strategy\Strategy Broadcast Server\7.0\SMTPService
- Enable (set to 1) the CreateProtocolLog value.
- Modify the Path string value, if desired.
- Restart the Strategy SMTP Service from the Windows Services control panel.
- If performed correctly, users will see a new log file created with the name MstrSmtpProtocolLog.log. The additional logging on this file is useful for troubleshooting various SMTP and message transmission issues.
NOTES:
- By default the log file will be saved under: C:\Program Files\Strategy\Narrowcast Server\Delivery Engine\SavedMail. To modify the path where the log file is generated open the registry and change the Path key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Strategy\Strategy Broadcast Server\7.0\SMTPService
- For more information about troubleshooting SMTP related issues, refer to the System Administrator guide located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Strategy\Documentation\SystemAdministrator.pdf or the following Strategy Knowledge Base technical document: KB11482 - How to deliver an e-mail manually for SMTP troubleshooting purposes?
WARNING:
Modifying registry values incorrectly may cause serious, system-wide problems that may require the re-installation of Microsoft Windows. Any edit of the registry is done at the user's own risk. Since these are user-initiated changes, they are not covered by any Strategy warranty. The use should backup the windows registry prior to alterations.
