KB9780: How to deliver content to file locations using MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server 9.x - 10.x

In Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x - 10.x, the File Information Transmission Module (ITM) expands the capabilities of the widely used sample code, "Save to File", to a fully certified and supported transmission module. This information transmitter transmits files to networked computers and remote servers.
 
The following procedure explains how to create a service using the File information transmitter.
 

• Edit the SavedFile Device to select the path where the files will be saved.
  
1. In the Strategy Narrowcast Administrator, expand the Administrator Icon.
   
2. Go to 'Devices'.
   
3. Open the File system folder.
   
4. Double-click on the SavedFile Device.
   
5. Under File location text box, enter the path where the files are to be saved, as shown below:
   

• In the Delivery Methods screen of the Service wizard, select the File check box, as shown below:
  

• Create a Static Subscription Set for the Save to File ITM.
  
• Create a new Static Subscription Set and click on the button to create a new user.
  
• Under the 'General' tab, define a name for this user:
  

• Select the 'Addresses' tab and configure the address, as shown in the following screen shot:
  

• Note: Retain the default value in the 'Physical Address' as this field will not be used but requires a value to allow users to save it.
  
• Add the 'Save to file' address to the Static Subscription Set:
  

• Save and close the Subscription set.
  
• Finish the Configuration Wizard and run the service.
  

 
Execute the service and the document will be saved to the folder specified in Step 1.
 
NOTE: If a shared folder was specified in Step 1, then the 'Strategy Distribution Manager' and 'Strategy Execution Engine' services must be running under a domain account with Write permissions for that folder.
