This knowledge base article explains the process of importing users from the MicroStrategy Intelligence Server into the MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server Subscription Book Repository

Follow the steps below to import users from the Strategy Intelligence Server into the Strategy Narrowcast Server Subscription Book :

  1. Run the UserExportTool from C:\Program Files\MicroStrategy\Narrowcast Server\Delivery Engine\Utilities.
  2. Specify the Strategy Intelligence Server name and administrator password and click 'Connect'.
  3. Click on 'Export' to generate a CSV file. This CSV file will contain all of the logins from the Strategy Intelligence Server. Refer to the following Strategy Knowledge Base document for more details:
    • KB7004 - What is the Strategy Intelligence Server User Export Tool included in Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.4.x-10.x?
  4. Launch the Strategy Narrowcast Administrator.
  5. Select 'Synchronize Subscription Data' from the Tools menu. For more details, refer to the following Strategy Knowledge Base document:
    • KB7008 - How to use the Subscription Book Synchronization Wizard in Strategy Narrowcast Server?
  6. In the section 'Synchronization Options' enter a name for the user synchronization tables. Set 'Source Type' to CSV. Browse to the CSV file previously created. Click on the 'Synchronization Settings' button.
  7. In the section 'User and Address Properties' there are two columns: one for the user properties and one for the Source File attributes (the columns in the generated CSV file).
    1. For User name, select 'User Name' (required to click on the blank cell to activate the drop-down menu)
    2. For Address Name, select 'Address Name'
    3. For Physical Address, select 'Physical Address'
    4. For Address Display, select 'Address Display'

It is acceptable to leave the remaining fields blank because they are not relevant to this document.
  8. Click 'Next'.
  9. Once the preview slide is presented, click 'Next' and the summary page should appear.
Note: The Authentication object cannot be defined since the password needs to be encrypted and the Subscription Book Synchronization Wizard does not have the ability to encrypt it.
  10. Create a service that includes the report of choice.
  11. Create a subscription set that includes some of the users that were imported.
  12. Execute the service and if the users had a preference associated, then each recipient will receive only the slice of data according to their preference.
