KB9926: SQL0901 errors appear when executing queries against DB2 for AS/400 or DB2 UDB for iSeries.

Community Admin

• Strategy

SQL executed against a DB2 database sometimes results in a SQL0901 error. However, when executing the same query directly via the Test ODBC tool, the error does not recur. An error similar to the following will appear in the DSSDatabaseClasses.log.

SYMPTOM:
SQL executed against a DB2 database sometimes results in a SQL0901 error. However, when executing the same query directly via the Test ODBC tool, the error does not recur. An error similar to the following will appear in the DSSDatabaseClasses.log:
1452:MSIJob::GetErrorsFromMsg(): <0x80042300><QueryEngine encountered error: Call SQLExecDirect got SQL_ERROR SQL0901 - SQL system error.>

CAUSE:
This error may occur sporadically and will cause a SQL query to return an error.

ACTION:
Users may find that this issue is often not reproducible, i.e. the same SQL statement or report will run correctly when executed subsequently.
However, when possible, users are encouraged to reproduce this issue for a given SQL statement or report and verify the following for troubleshooting purposes:

  • does issue occur in 2-tier?
  • does issue occur when running SQL through TestODBC using Strategy or native ODBC API connectivity?
  • have the VLDB settings been changed, especially with respect to use of temporary tables?

Whether the issue occurs sporadically or not, it is advisable to check the following:

  • is a certified configuration being used?
  • what version of ODBC driver is being used?
