This article describes a known issue for Teradata connection on Linux platform after upgrading from the Hotfix release after MicroStrategy 2020 Update 2 to MicroStrategy 2021. User will have connectivity issue for Teradata ODBC connection after upgrading.

SYMPTOM:

Users could encounter into connectivity issue for Teradata ODBC connection after upgrading from the Hotfix release after Strategy 2020 Update 2 to Strategy 2021 on Linux platform.

This issue only happens on Linux platform but not Windows. And there will be no issue for Strategy 2021 fresh install or if customer upgrade from Strategy release before Strategy 2020 Update 2.
This issue has been fixed in Strategy 2021 Update 1.

STEP TO REPRODUCE:

  • Install the Hotfix release after Strategy 2020 Update 2. We have shipped Teradata 16.20 together with Strategy installation. The default Teradata ODBC driver on Linux Platform is `/opt/MicroStrategy/lib/tdodbc` as below:

  1. Create a Teradata Database connection with shipped Teradata ODBC Driver.
  1. Upgrade platform version to Strategy 2021 release.
  • The existing Teradata connection failed

  • Check Teradata ODBC Driver path and it’s not correct

CAUSE:

We have shipped Teradata ODBC Driver 16.20 since Strategy 2020 Update 2. In order to get in catch with newest Teradata Database 17 release and provide better support for Teradata, we decide to upgrade Teradata ODBC Driver from version 16.20 to 17.00 with our Strategy 2021 installation.

However, during our Driver certification, we found there’s a TPT connection issue on Teradata 17 ODBC Driver. In addition to creating a ticket to Teradata Vendor, we add a parent folder 17.00 and some soft links as a workaround to make TPT connection work.

Now this issue happened because the existing driver folder and new soft links are not well managed after upgrading.

ACTION:

The expected Teradata ODBC Driver path should look like this:

User could manually remove the origin driver folder for 16.20 and add new soft links to work around this issue:

// remove the left 16.20 Driver folder
cd /opt/MicroStrategy/lib/tdodbc
rm -rf lib/ lib64/ odbc_32/ odbc_64/

// create soft link for 17.00 Driver folder
ln -s 17.00/odbc_64 odbc_64
ln -s 17.00/lib lib
ln -s 17.00/lib64 lib64
ln -s 17.00/odbc_32 odbc_32

After the above steps, the Teradata connection will succeed.
