KB466379: Machine Learning and Analytics With Microsoft R

Community Admin

• Strategy

Predictive analytics and machine learning are playing an increasingly important role in the data analytics landscape. The R programming language has become the de facto industry standard for developing statistical and data mining models. MicroStrategy makes it easy to integrate with R, so users can easily build and incorporate advanced analytics into their enterprise reports and dashboards.

The R language has long been used in academia and is the language of choice for developing cutting-edge statistical and data mining technologies. Revolution Analytics pioneered the adoption of R in enterprises and built capabilities that allowed the parallelization of workloads in R. Microsoft subsequently acquired Revolution Analytics and has continued the push forward in making R more enterprise friendly. Strategy has partnered with Microsoft on this front and has tested its integration with the Microsoft R Client.
Users can leverage the Microsoft R client and R Tools for Visual Studio to develop models that can be incorporated into Strategy reports and dashboards. The integration between Microsoft R and Strategy can be done using the same workflow as is currently specified for the Cran-R distribution in the Strategy documentation . Customers who use Microsoft R will benefit from Scale R technology and the associated functions that enable parallel execution and remote computing.
This partnership complements the native advanced analytics functionality available in the Strategy platform, for which more details can be found here. In addition to these capabilities, Strategy will continue to partner closely with Microsoft to deepen the integration and extend it to other Microsoft offerings such as Microsoft R Server and SQL Server R Services.
