This article describes how to add or modify objects metadata translation using MicroStrategy Repository Translation Wizard and Microsoft Access.
Action
Add preferred MS Access database to a new DSN or configure currently existing one (if applicable)
Note: A new DSN can be also created at the next stage (see point 7 below)
Open Repository Translation Wizard and click Next. (in case you have xml file prepared, you can use it to initialize the wizard)
Select project source and enter credentials.
To add or modify a given object translation, currently existing translation needs to be exported first. Select Export Translations as a translation action and click Next.
In the next window choose a project in which the MSTR object is located and as a next step select a reference language and languages to be exported. (languages for which translation content is supposed to be modified)
After clicking Next, select a target(s) of the translation process. Once done, click Next.
Choose preferred Microsoft Access DSN and enter credentials (if applicable). Check connection by using Connect button. In this step you can also create a new DSN.
Before moving to next window, specify a name of a table to which the translation strings are to be exported (name should start from ‘RST’)
Click Next and specify the level of logging desired, name and location for the log file, plus the name and location of XML file.
Click Next, check details and when you are ready click Finish. If additional window pops up, select Yes to create a new table in MS Access.
Go to MS Access, open a database that the table was exported to and double click the table.
In the Retranslation column you can find the object’s components names in a reference language selected in point 5. Corresponding names in the language(s) for which translation is to be modified or uploaded can be found in Translation column.
Modify the content of Translation column in line with requirements. It can be done directly in the exported table or other way, i.e. by exporting table to Microsoft Excel, applying changes and uploading modified data back to the MS Access table. Once done, go back to Repository Translation Wizard.
Click Next, specify a project source and enter credentials. This time choose Import Translations as a translation action.
In the next window select the same Data Source Name as before (point 7), click Connect (enter credentials, if applicable) and specify a table from which translation strings will be imported.
Click Next, select perform import and provide validation check as feedback.
Go to the next window where you need to define level of logging, log and XML files names and paths.
Click Next and Finish.
You should get a message that translation process has been successful. (If not, check logs to identify the issue)
