MicroStrategy on AWS: Metadata Backup and Restore

Zander Nelson

Software Engineer, Principal • Strategy

A guide to backing up MicroStrategy metadata on a MicroStrategy on AWS environment.

In this video we explore how to backup a metadata database from the bash terminal.

If you see the error "ERROR 1227 (42000) at line 1293: Access denied; you need (at least one of) the SUPER privilege(s) for this operation", that means the metadata you dumped had its delimiters set by another MySQL user. To work around this, run the following sed command which will reset the delimiters: "

sed -E 's/DEFINER=`[^`]+`@`[^`]+`/DEFINER=CURRENT_USER/g' poc_metadata.sql > dumpfile_no_tags.sql". Then try again on the new file.
