KB483948: Modify the DSN setting to create Platform Analytics projects against PostgreSQL metadata using command line mode

Jing (Sally) Cheng

Senior Principal Consultant • MicroStrategy

This article explains how to modify the DSN setting to create a Platform Analytics project against a PostgreSQL metadata using command line mode.

Description

You can use different modes to install and configure a Platform Analytics project, such as GUI mode, silent mode, and console mode. When using console mode to create a Platform Analytics project against a PostgreSQL metadata, you may encounter an error message.
You will receive an error message when using command line mode.

Steps to reproduce

On Windows

  • Execute macfgwiz.EXE, which is often saved in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Strategy.
  • In the Strategy Configuration Wizard, select Use Response file or Create Response file to create a Platform Analytics project.
Note: End users will often choose to create a new response file.

  • Find the ODBC Data Source that is going to be used to create the Platform Analytics project.
  • Enter your credentials. Notice the two errors appear.

Solution

On Windows

Check the Configuration Wizard log file (MACfg.xml) for more information. The log file can often be found in the Strategy\Log folder.

<log4j:message><![CDATA[Error occured while creating Platform Analytics project.: MsiSessionManager::IsUserLoggedIn(): user session is invalid when trying to add new commands in.]]></log4j:message>

Check the DSN setting in the Advanced tab to make sure the following settings are enabled.

  • Fetch TSWTZ as Timestamp
  • Fetch TWFS as Time
  • Fetch Ref Cursor
  • Initialization String: SET STANDARD_CONFORMING_STRINGS TO OFF;

Check the DSN setting and add the following parameters in the metadata DSN in the odbc.ini file.

  • FetchTWFSasTime=1
  • FetchTSWTZasTimestamp=1
  • FetchRefCursors=1
  • ConnSettings=SET STANDARD_CONFORMING_STRINGS=OFF
