Neo4j Data Community Connector fails when importing data with the error message “Data Import error. Fail to load scripts from data connector.”

Daniel Zumbaugh

Principal Product Specialist • MicroStrategy

This article provides a workaround to the error "Data Import error. Fail to load scripts from data connector." that appears when importing data from Neo4j.

Symptom

Importing data from the Neo4j 2019 Community Connector results in the following error message:
{Neo4jQuery} Error in importing file. Check the file to import.[Retrieving data from data connector failed. Error in importing files. Please check the file to import. Error type: Data Import error. Fail to load scripts from data connector. Error: connect ECONNREFUSED]

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a Neo4j dataset containing a date datatype.
  2. Use the 2019 Neo4j Community Connector to import the dataset. For instructions, see How to Use the Neo4j Connector.
  3. Click Data Preview. The preview works and you can view your data.
  4. Click Finish to import your data. Notice the error appears.

Cause

This error may be a result of using the date datatype. The Strategy 2019 Neo4j Community Connector uses the Neo4j driver version 1.2.1, this driver version does not support the date datatype.

Solution

Please upgrade and use the Strategy 2019 Update 2 or later Neo4j Community Connector where a newer version of the Neo4j driver is used.
If you are not in a position to update, you can manually update the Neo4j driver to support the date datatype using the following steps:

  1. Stop the Web server.
  2. Download the latest Neo4j java driver available here.
  3. On the Web server, navigate to
    CommunityConnectors\WEB-INF\lib.
  4. Delete the
    neo4j-java-driver.1.2.1.jar
    driver.
  5. Add the new
    neo4j-java-driver.1.7.2.jar
    driver.
  6. Start the Web server.
  7. Import data using the Neo4j Community Connector.
