KB483342: On Linux, the Intelligence server remains in a “starting” state due to a file lock on the EMC Isilon OneFS network file system.

Mingjun Zhu

Software Architect, Senior • Strategy

This article provides a possible solution if the Intelligence server remains in a starting state on Linux.

Symptom

On Linux, the Intelligence server remains in a starting state without fully starting.

Cause

When the Intelligence server is configured to store cache/cube/log on the EMC Isilon OneFS network file system, you have to enable the “nolock” setting when mounting the EMC Isilon OneFS network file system.
If you do not have this setting, the Intelligence server will hang because it fails to acquire read lock on the file stored in that network file system. Even gdb/pstack will hang.

Action

Check /etc/fstab before and after.
To locate which system a file or directory is on, use the command:

% df -h /path/to/directory_or_file

Correct:
file_system:/path/  /path/to/mount/point  nfs defaults,nolock,intr,nfsvers=3,soft 0 0
Incorrect:
file_system:/path/  /path/to/mount/point  nfs
