MicroStrategy can connect to other LDAPv3 compliant directory servers such as IBM Tivoli Directory Server and Sun Java System Directory Server as a directory service or use it as a connectivity library to connect to another directory service.

Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) is an open standard Internet protocol running over TCP/IP that is designed to maintain and work with large user directory services. It provides a standard way for applications to request and manage user and group directory information. LDAP performs simple Select operations against large directories, in which the goal is to retrieve a collection of attributes with simple qualifications.
Strategy can connect to other LDAPv3 compliant directory servers such as IBM Tivoli Directory Server and Sun Java System Directory Server(previously known as Sun One/I Planet) as a directory service or use it as a connectivity library to connect to another directory service(eg; Active Directory/OpenLDAP). This can be used along with user/group search filters to allow dynamic updating of user attributes as well as dynamically assigning groups and privileges to users based on their memberships in the backend directory. In this way it can simplify administration of the platform when it comes to users and groups.
