KB484373: Page filter does not apply to tooltips of additional layers of ESRI map in dossier

Zuzanna Grzyniewska

Manager, Business Intelligence • MicroStrategy

This article addresses why a page filter does not apply to the tooltips of additional layers of an ESRI map in a dossier. This article also provides a workaround to avoid this behavior.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.

Description

Page filters are not applied to the tooltip of additional layers of ESRI map in a dossier. They apply correctly to the first layer, but not to the following ones.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create an ESRI map visualization.
  2. Create a page filter and choose the map visualization as its target.
Observe the filter is applied to the first layer’s tooltip values correctly.
  3. Create a new layer on the map visualization
  4. Observe the filter is not applied to the new layer’s tooltip values

Why is this happening?

This is a known limitation of ESRI map visualizations when a page filter is set to target the map before all the map layers are created.

Workaround

To work around the issue, clear the page filter target, then re-select the map visualization as the filter’s target. This way, the page filter is re-applied to the map visualization, and by extension, to all the existing layers.
