Real-time Administration/Maintenance - detecting failed logins to admin account

Robert Prochowicz

Manager, Sales Engineering • MicroStrategy

You can use Kafka integration to implement real time detection of failed attempts to log in as administrator user.

Description

Since the last few releases, Strategy has been able to stream logs to Kafka. You can use it to implement real time maintenance/administration. It's fairly easy to demonstrate a scenario where a red bulb and alarm goes off on the admin desk whenever someone a provides wrong password for the MSTR administrator account.
See this scenario in action.

Ingredients in my case were:

- Freshly installed MSTR 11 on my Windows laptop (Express mode install)
- Enabling feature "10. Sending Log to Messaging Services" in Web > Preferences > Project Defaults
- Making sure those 3 Windows services are running: Apache Kafka, Apache Zookeeper, Strategy Logging Consumer
- Attached Python script and .wav file
