Reference lines are not visible in a combination chart on Desktop or Workstation

Fernando Iwamoto

Senior Cloud Support Engineer III • MicroStrategy

This article explains the identified defect in MicroStrategy Desktop and Workstation where reference lines are not visible in a combination charts.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.

Symptom

Using a Windows machine, users are unable to create the correct reference lines when Workstation or Desktop are in a language that uses a comma (,) as a decimal separator. The values after the comma are not recognized, so when using a percent value like 50%, the value represented as 0,5 is only recognized as 0.

Steps to Reproduce

  • Change your operational system to a language that uses a comma as a decimal separator (for example, Portuguese)
  • Create a .csv file that will contain one attribute and two metrics with percent values.
  • In Desktop or Workstation, create a dossier using the .csv file.
  • Create a combination chart visualization.
  • In the format panel, select Reference Lines.
  • Click Add > Constant.
  • You want to add a Constant reference line at 70%, so enter 0,7 and click OK.
Note: This field does not allow you to enter a value followed by a percentage (like 70%), it must be in decimal form.
  • Click Add > Constant.
  • You want to add another constant reference line, this time at 30%. Enter 0,3 and click OK.
  • Notice both Constants have a value of 0.

  • Note: If your reference lines still appear after this step, you may find that refreshing the page or creating a new chapter causes the reference lines to disappear.

Cause

This is an identified defect in Strategy Desktop and Workstation. Values separated by a comma are not recognized by the product, so there becomes a conflict with two values listed as 0.

Solution

This issue is addressed in Strategy Desktop and Workstation 2019 Update 2. Please update to Strategy 2019 Update 2 to take advantage of the fix.
