Blending Data from two different Data Sources

Muge Ergecen

Manager, Professional Services • Strategy

This example shows blending data from SAP BW with the data in MicroStrategy Datawarehouse in MicroStrategy Desktop

In this example, SAP BW provided Monthly Revenue by Region. The orders, however, are in the corporate data warehouse which is modeled in Strategy. A chart is built using the multi-source engine which blends data from both SAP BW and the modeled SQL.
To replicate this:
1. Click the "Add Data" icon and select "New Report"
2. Select your attributes: Region and Month of Year
3. Select your metric: Order count
4. Once the new data is loaded, a new data set appears next to the SAP BW dataset, name it "Governed Data"
5. In order to blend the two data sets, they first need to be linked on the key fields: Month of Year and Region.
6. Select month of year 1 from SAP BW data and link it to the Month of Year from Governed Data.
7. Region 1 from SAP BW data set is selected and lined to the Region from Governed Data.
8. Now that two data sets are linked, it is possible to use metrics and attributes from these two data sets on any visualization.
9. Order Count from Governed Data data set is selected and dragged to the Monthly Revenue by Region Chart.
