KB484381: Saving changes to the Default Properties on the Web Admin page with SAML enabled results in an "Invalid Information" error

Shane Winslow

This article addresses the "Invalid Information" error encountered when saving saving changes to the Default Properties page on Web Admin with SAML enabled. This article also provides a solution to avoid this error.

Description

When SAML is enabled in Strategy Web, certain settings, such as the Default login mode, cannot be changed to the Default Properties of the Intelligence Servers on the Web Admin. These settings are enforced after making the required changes to the

web.xml
to enable SAML authentication. However, users should be able to save changes to the other settings on the Default Properties page such as the Server busy timeout and Request timeout settings.

In Strategy Web, the below error is seen when trying to save any change to the Default Properties.

Invalid information
Please correct the marked fields and try again.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Configure SAML following this product documentation.
  2. In a web browser, access the Web Admin page:
    https://<server>:8080/MicroStrategy/servlet/mstrWebAdmin
  3. Enter the Tomcat credentials when prompted.
  4. Enter the SAML credentials when prompted.
  5. On the Web Admin, go to the Default Properties page.
  6. Change the Server busy timeout to 20.
  7. Save the changes. Notice the error.

Why is this happening?

This behavior is seen when trusted authentication is not enabled on the Web Admin page before modifying the

web.xml
to enable SAML.

Solution

The below steps can be followed to resolve the issue without disabling SAML authentication to enable trusted authentication on the Web Admin page.

  • Stop the application server.
  • Locate the
    sys_default.properties
    file located at
    <MicroStrategyWeb>\WEB-INF\xm
    l.
  • Edit the
    sys_defaults.properites
    file and add the following two lines:
    defaultloginmode=64

    enabledloginmode=65

  • Save the
    sys_defaults.properties
    file.
