KB440891: "Service MongoDB is not running. Reason: Slash in host identifier" error occurs when starting Collaboration Server

Pascal Deguine

Principal Product Specialist • Strategy

This knowledge base article provides steps to resolve the error "Service MongoDB is not running. Reason: Slash in host identifier" when starting Collaboration Server that is pointing to a custom installation of MongoDB

ISSUE
When pointing Strategy Collaboration Server to a non default MongoDB database, Collaboration Server does not start correctly and returns the following error:

Service 'MongoDB' is not running. Reason=> err=slash in host identifier

CAUSE
This issue is not Strategy specific and may be caused by a MongoDB username and password that contains a comma in which case the MongoDB connection string inside config.json is not correctly parsed.
ACTION
Apply one of the two solution:
1. Encode the MongoDB username or password, e.g. on https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/encodeURIComponent.
2. Remove any comma or special character from the MongoDB username and password.
