KB485988: The DB Table attribute in Platform Analytics displays a “Not Applicable” value for the database table used by a Document or Dossier when the table is imported from the database by Typing a Query and the data is accessed through Connect Live mode

Cesar Espinosa

Senior Support Engineer • Strategy

This article describes the situation where the DB Table attribute in Platform Analytics displays a “Not Applicable” value for the database table used by a Document or Dossier.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.

Symptom

The DB Table attribute in Platform Analytics displays a “Not Applicable” value for the database table used by a Document or Dossier when the table is imported from the database by Typing a Query and the data is accessed through Connect Live mode.

Steps to reproduce

  1. In Strategy Web, go to “Create > Add External Data > Databases” and select the option “Type a Query”:

  1. Type a query to import a table:

  1. Access the data in Connect Live mode:

  1. Create a Dossier and use some of the attributes and/or metrics obtained:

  1. Create a custom Dossier/Report in Platform Analytics with the DB Table attribute and check that the database table used by the Dossier created in Step 4 appears as “Not Applicable”.

Cause

Strategy Intelligence Server does not store which table(s) are accessed when the user is typing a query script to import a database table and access the data through Connect Live mode. Making Platform Analytics unable to report the accessed table in this scenario.

Action

As an alternative, you can turn on the JobSQL advanced statistics in Platform Analytics, which allows the SQL executed for each job to be recorded in the “fact_sql_stats” table within the “platform_analytics_wh” database and extract the table names from there. However, this would require the involvement of Strategy Professional Services.
A product enhancement can be requested if you are interested in obtaining the database table used by a Document or Dossier through a Platform Analytics attribute for the scenario described in this Knowledge Base Article. Please contact Strategy Technical Support to log the enhancement request.
