The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable error is received when exporting from Developer to Excel 2016

Users who have recently upgraded to Excel 2016 might sometimes notice the error message when exporting to Excel from Developer

Further investigation will show no Strategy errors in the DSSErrors log but users will notice an error about Excel crashing if you look at the Windows Event Viewer logs.

CAUSE
The cause of this issue can be attributed to Microsoft Excel as evidenced by the thread found here https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/excel-2016-crashes-often/a229a0a2-494e-4cdc-8644-b5f0ef5d43c4?page=1

RESOLUTION
As Strategy has no control over Microsoft, we can only recommend choosing a different version of Excel that is not reported to have these issues. Other recommendation is to attempt the export to Excel multiple times as the issue has been found to only sometimes prevent the exporting and will usually allow it after repeated attempts. KB483085
