KB419176: “The user does not have Read access to this Folder object (ID is ‘8D678D7611D3E4981000E787EC6DE8A4’)” error message is received when trying to create a new report in MicroStrategy Developer 10.x.

This knowledge base article describes the error message “The user does not have Read access to this Folder object (ID is ‘8D678D7611D3E4981000E787EC6DE8A4’)” received when trying to create a new report in MicroStrategy Developer 10.x.

SYMPTOM:

When users click to create a new report they receive the following error message:

ka02R000000kV7MQAU_0EM440000002Fi3.jpeg

Sample code/error:

The user does not have Read access to this Folder object (ID is '8D678D7611D3E4981000E787EC6DE8A4')

The users are expecting to receive a new window that allows them to select a template, but instead they receive the above error message. However, once the users click OK on this error message, a new blank report is opened in the report editor, and no functionality is lost.

CAUSE:
This Folder Object ID points to the 'Reports' folder located within the 'Object Templates' folder.
Note: 'Object Templates' is a hidden folder. To unhide this folder, go to Tools > Developer Preferences > Browsing Options > and check the box for 'Display Hidden Objects.'

When a new report is created and the Strategy Developer Preference settings of the user allow them to select an Object Template, the report templates found in the folder 'Object Templates\Reports' are loaded for the user. By default, Strategy grants the Everyone group a Custom ACL with 'Bowse' and 'Read' permissions. The user will receive the error message if this ACL is removed or the groups to which the user belongs are not included.

ACTION:
Have the Administrator grant the user a minimum of 'Browse' and 'Read' permissions to all of the Object Templates folders.
