This Knowledge Base article describes how totals will still appear in VI grids although selected to not appear and the code fixed introduce to omit the issue.

SYMPTOM
in Visual Insight we have one report with attribute in rows and one in column with one metric.
the result has few null/zero values though we can hide them with the 'hide null/zero' check the problem comes when we want to display the total in columns, there all null/zero come back and can not be hidden.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a VI grid report with 1 metric with a at least one NULL value
2. Select hide data rows with zero/null values with a single click using the option: Data > Hide Nulls/Zeros, which is shown below.

3. The totals will still appear blank
CAUSE
This is working as designed in Strategy. The option to hide zeros/nulls only applies to metric values and does not extend to subtotals.
ACTION
This issue has been addressed in 10.9 . Upgrade to this version to take advantage of this fix. KB440440
