Symptom:
When trying to configure the Strategy Intelligence Server using Strategy Configuration Wizard the following error may occur:
Error obtaining a server session: Unexpected error occurred. Malformed XML.
The steps outlined in the following knowledge base article do not help to resolve the issue:
KB15301: MicroStrategy Intelligence Server does not start with the error message: 'MSTRCtl Error 0xFFFFFFFF: Unexpected error occurred Malformed XML'Cause:One possible cause is a corrupted DUMMY_SERVER instance. This is a temporary instance created during configuration of the Intelligence Server via Configuration Wizard and removed as soon as the process is successful. The following command can be executed to see if the DUMMY_SERVER instance has not been removed:
mstrctl -s IntelligenceServer li
The command can be run from <MSTR_HOME_PATH>/bin folder on Linux and <MSTR_COMMON_FILES> path on Windows.
Action:If DUMMY_SERVER appears as one of the instances from running the above command. The following command can be executed in order to remove it:
mstrctl -s IntelligenceServer di DUMMY_SERVER
Once the instance has been removed Strategy Configuration Wizard can be used to configure the Intelligence Server again.
