KB487033: Unicode characters are not displayed correctly when connecting to a Databricks database.

Vanessa Munoz

Cloud Support Expert I • MicroStrategy

Special characters such as É are displayed incorrectly in MicroStrategy Library or Developer due to the Databricks database driver’s inability to handle them. To fix this issue, add specific UTF-8 encoding parameters to the registry key.

Symptom

Special characters, such as É, do not display correctly in Strategy Library or Developer. For instance instead of   DÉCOR,  DÉCOR is shown.

Cause

This issue occurs because the driver used to connect to the Databricks database is not able to handle those special characters.

Solution

Add the following parameter to the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\MicroStrategy\JNI Bridge\Config for DataServices\JVM Options\OtherOptions
-Dsun.jnu.encoding=UTF-8;-Dfile.encoding=UTF-8;
After making this change, restart the Intelligence Server. The special characters should display properly afterwards.
