KB485073: How to use SAML authentication with Power BI Desktop

This article provides steps for configuring SAML authentication with Power BI Desktop.
  • Start Power BI Desktop. 
  • From File, go to Data > Other >  Strategy Dataset connector and click Connect.

  • Click Continue if the Preview Connector dialog appears. 
  • Input the connection parameters for the connector.
    • Strategy Rest API URL: The base URL your Strategy REST API environment with properly configured SAML authentication. For example, 
      https://mstr.mycompany.com/StrategyLibrary/.
    • Timeout Duration in Seconds (optional): The number of seconds before an API call should return a timeout error. The default is 100 seconds.

  • Click OK.
  • Select the Library tab and click Sign in.

  • In the Library authentication dialog, click Log in with Identity.

  • Provide the correct credentials and click Sign In. You can use your IDP to authenticate with Strategy. In this example, OKTA is used.

  • The connector dialog appears with the Sign in as different user button. Click Connect.

  • Upon successful connection, you can browse through your Strategy projects to view existing reports and cubes using the Navigation Tree. Click on a dataset to preview it and select its checkbox to select it for import. You can select multiple datasets at once. 
  • When you're ready for import, click Load.
