KB441048: Users receive the error “You have entered an invalid name” when showing totals after sorting a metric on a crosstab grid visualization in a Dossier in MicroStrategy Web 10.11

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.
SYMPTOM:
 
In Strategy Web 10.11, users have the ability to sort metrics in ascending or descending and show totals for the metrics in a grid visualization in a Dossier. However, if users try to sort the metric before showing totals on a metric in a crosstab grid visualization in a Dossier, the below error occurs.

You have entered an invalid name.

 
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1. In Strategy Tutorial, create a report with the attributes Year, Country, and Brand and metrics Cost, Profit, and Revenue. 
2. Save the report. 
3. Create a Dossier and add the report from step 1. 
4. Add Brand to the Rows dropzone. 
5. Add Year and Country to the Columns dropzone. 
6. Add Cost, Profit, and Revenue to the Metrics dropzone. 
7. Right-click on Cost and choose Sort Ascending. 
8. Right-click on Cost and click Show Totals. 
9. Notice the error.

CAUSE:
This is an identified defect in Strategy Web 10.11.
ACTION:
Currently this issue is still being reviewed for feasibility by our Technology team and it is not scoped for any upcoming scheduled Strategy release.
WORKAROUND:
Show the totals on the grid before sorting on the metric to use both functionalities.
