Users with View Access to a Cube Cannot Change the Refresh Policy and Republish the Cube in MicroStrategy 2019

Yihuan Qian

Senior Support Engineer • MicroStrategy

This article explains why sometimes users cannot refresh cubes.

Description

When a user tries to refresh a cube, the following error appears:
User 'xxx' does not have Write access to the Report Definition object 'xxx' in Project with ID xxx.

Steps to reproduce

  1. The user has view access to cube A and B.
  2. Cube A's refresh policy is set to "add new data." Cube B's refresh policy is set to "update existing data."
  3. If a user refreshes cube A with "add new data" as a refresh policy, he can successfully refresh it. If a user tries to refresh cube B with "add new data" as the refresh policy, the following error appears:
User ‘xxx' does not have Write access to the Report Definition object 'cube B' in Project with ID xxx

Why is this happening?

This is working as expected. Refresh policy is saved in table. Changing refresh policy needs write privilege to change cube definition. So user who only has view privilege could only refresh cube using current policy.

Solution

If the user wants to refresh the cube with a different refresh policy, they must login as a user with write access to the cube.
