Video Tutorial - Using a Batch File to Trigger Event-Based Subscriptions

Kevin Thompson

Associate Scrum Master • Strategy

In this brief video tutorial, Doug Terbush of our Customer Education team describes how to create batch files that will trigger event-based subscriptions in MicroStrategy.

When publishing an Intelligence cube, Strategy saves a cube cache file to disk. In Strategy versions prior to Strategy 2021 Update 1, the cube cache file that is saved to disk does not include an Attribute Element Index, which is generated during cube publishing to improve cube querying performance. Instead, in prior versions, the Attribute Element Index is only kept in memory. This causes the cube cache file size in memory to be larger than the cube cache file size on disk in prior versions.
Under the prior design, each time a cube is loaded into memory from the cube cache, the Analytical Engine regenerates the Attribute Element Index, which is a time-consuming operation. Starting in Strategy 2021 Update 1 under Data Engine Version 10, 11 and 12, the Attribute Element Index is serializes to disk during cube publishing to improve performance for cube loading. Cubes load faster with this optimization but will consume additional disk space to host the cube cache files. The cube cache file sizes on disk and in memory are similar.
