KB483410: When Using SAML Authentication, Users Are Not Re-Prompted by IDP When They Force Quit Library Mobile iOS

Vincent Auyeung

Principal Support Engineer • MicroStrategy

Description:

When using SAML authentication, authentication with an identity provider (IDP) is required. When using Strategy Mobile, users are re-prompted by IDP each time the application is force quit by closing it completely from the full application list. However, if the application is left in the background, the user is not re-prompted.
This behavior differs from Strategy Library on mobile. After a successful login to IDP, the session persists after Library is force quit and until the session with IDP times out. You can set the timeout on the IDP side.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Configure mobile to use SAML. See Enabling Single Sign-On with SAML Authentication for JSP Web and Mobile for more informatin.
  2. On a mobile device, log into Strategy Mobile using IDP credentials.
  3. Force quit the application by tapping on the home button twice and swiping the mobile application to the left or right.
  4. Launch Strategy Mobile and try to run any report object.

Notice that re-prompt takes place for the Strategy mobile application, but not Library.

Action:

This behavior is working by design. There is an existing enhancement request to address this issue.
