KB483928: When answering a prompt with a file, a maximum size error is received

Vincent Auyeung

Principal Support Engineer • MicroStrategy

This article addresses the size error associated with answering a prompt with a file. This article also provides a solution to avoid this error.

Description

When answering prompts, you can use .txt or .csv files. For more information, see How to Import Prompt Values from a File.
However, there is a limit to the maximum file size that can be used. If the limit is reached, the following error message is displayed:
"The uploaded file [File Name] is larger than [Number] bytes."

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a hierarchy or attribute qualification prompt.
  2. Create a grid report that includes the prompt you created in the prior step.
  3. Create a .csv file that is larger than the setting of "Maximum size of the files to upload."
  4. Run the report created in step 2 and answer the prompt with your .csv file.

Why is this happening?

The Maximum size of the files to upload setting controls the maximum file size that can be used to answer prompts. If your file exceeds the maximum file size defined in the setting, then you will receive an error.

Solution

The maximum file size can be changed in the Strategy Web Preference settings:

  • Navigate to Project Defaults > Prompts > Element import.
  • Adjust the value of Maximum size of the files to upload in the textbox.
