When installing Platform Analytics, if the password for the MySQL database has a special character, connection to database cannot be established.

When installing and configuring Platform Analytics, you are asked for a MySQL database connection. While setting up your MySQL database (which is needed for Platform Analytics to function), you are prompted to set up a username and password to connect to MySQL. If your password contains a special character ($, !, .etc), an error appears.

Symptom

During the Platform Analytics installation and configuration, you are asked to create a MySQL database connection. To set up your MySQL database, you need to create a username and password to connect to MySQL.
When creating a password for the MySQL database, if the password contains a special character, such as $, !, .etc., the connection to the database cannot be established. The following error appears:

java.sql.SQLException: Access denied for user 'mstr@xxx' (using password: YES).

Cause

You are using a parameter on the command line that has a reserved character ($, !, .etc).

Solution

If your password includes certain special characters, you need to wrap the password in single-quotes. For example, 'password$inSingleQuotes'.
For more information on manually deploying the Platform Analytics repository, see the Platform Analytics help.
