KB485641: When using “small” or “medium” Cell padding in Dossiers it always goes to “Large”

Gustavo Sulbaran

Product Specialist • MicroStrategy

This article indicates the behavior encountered in MicroStrategy 2021 update 6 when the user tries to use small or medium cell padding. After clicking one of the options, the visualization changes automatically to use large, even if previously the parameter used was one of the previous mentioned (small or medium).

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.

Symptom

There is a basic grid in a dossier with medium cell padding.

A different format (small) is clicked (applies if medium is clicked once again)

After the loading process finishes it changes automatically to large cell adding.

As it can been seen, this dossier having the behavior is in German, needless to say; this should affect users with languages that has the decimal separator to be a “,” in their OS locale (Fe, Spain, Italy, other).
The problem specifically originated in U6 from the fact that calculations were added to generate padding presets (small, medium, large) based on default values, and based on user inputs. These inputs and the calculations were not considering the user locale and any locale that identifies "." as a thousand separator, and not as a decimal point (or vice versa) which would produce massive consequences.
As an example of this issue, we could consider that in this situation some cell paddings could change their value to go from 4.2 to 4200 when this behavior is observed
Currently Strategy is working into fixing this issue.

Workaround

As a temporary workaround for Strategy Update 6 would be using locales that use decimal separator to be a point “.” (ex. United States, United Kingdom, other)
