KB484221: When using the Sharepoint Files connector, all sites cannot be retrieved from the SharePoint Server

Zhen Yao

Software Engineer, Senior • MicroStrategy

This article explains why you may be unable to target your sites when using the SharePoint Files connector. This article also provides a solution to work around this behavior.

Description

If you have a large number of SharePoint sites and log in to the SharePoint Files connector from Strategy, you may be unable to find your target sites.
Since 2019, SharePoint Files use Microsoft Graph API. Strategy is working to upgrade the SharePoint Files connector from the Community Connectors component in Strategy 2019 and above. In the meantime, you may have trouble targeting your sites.

Why is this happening?

Currently, Microsoft doesn't have an official supported way to discover all of the sites and site collections in a given tenant. The built-in method in the connector uses the query

search=*
to get the results. However, each
 GET
request via Graph API only returns up to 200 items.

Solution

Microsoft Graph API hasn’t published a valid API to fetch all the sites.
Starting in Strategy 2020 Update 2, you can get the sites with keywords from your input.
